Cultural facts

Having film permits in Egypt does not entitle you to film wherever you want in the country. Egypt is a predominantly Muslim country, and filming in religious or sacred sites will require special permissions that must be organized beforehand. As an Islamic country, the clothing in Egypt is generally conservative. There is no enforced dress code but it’s advisable to dress modestly. Also, be mindful that public displays of affection are not the norm here so refrain from hugging, kissing, or holding hands in public areas.

Weather when filming in Egypt

Summers in Egypt are extremely hot, particularly in the desert regions, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C (104°F). Keep hydrated and well-protected against the sun, and be mindful of heat stroke. It’s also important to ensure all equipment is protected against heat and sand when filming in desert areas. Winters are mild and more suitable for filming, especially in Cairo and along the Nile. If filming in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula or along coastal areas like Hurghada, you can expect more pleasant weather year-round.

Tax Rebate in Egypt

In 2023, the country’s main film and TV hub, Egyptian Media Production City (EMPC) began offering a 30% cash rebate for foreign productions occurring in Egypt. To qualify, though, the productions must make use of some of the EMPC’s own onsite services.
